Scammer arrested after cops intercept vehicle
Detectives assigned to the Manchester Proactive Investigations Unit have arrested a man after intercepting a motor vehicle on the Kingsland main road, Spur Tree, on July 10.
Reports from the Mandeville police are that at 9:30 a.m., a police team on mobile patrol intercepted a Crown motor vehicle after it was observed operating carelessly and recklessly, closely following a police convoy. A search of the vehicle was conducted and several electronic lead sheets containing the personal information of individuals residing overseas were found. While being interrogated, the driver confessed to purchasing the motor vehicle using proceeds obtained from his involvement in lottery scamming. The accused later attempted to bribe the police with $100,000.
He was arrested and is facing charges of: possession of identity information; possession of identity information of another person with the intent to commit fraud; engaging in a transaction involving criminal property; conspiracy to defraud; possession of criminal property; and attempting to corrupt a public official (bribery).
His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
