British actor turns royal rebel - ‘Princess Diana’ gets Jamaican makeover in hit TikTok series
Tobias Cordes, a London-based actor and content creator, has captivated many persons on social media by reimagining the late Princess Diana as a Jamaican-speaking royal -- earning him the viral nickname "Yardiana" or "Rasta Princess."
Born in Kent, England, Cordes told THE STAR that his Diana impersonations began on TikTok but took an unexpected turn when he decided to mix royalty with yard culture.
"I started doing impressions of Diana on TikTok, and one day I just had this moment of inspiration to do her famous 'well there were three of us in this marriage' speech in patois," Cordes shared.
Since dropping his first Jamaican Diana video, Cordes has built a cult following with sketches that feature the People's Princess running a Jamaican restaurant, arguing over oxtail and plantain, and even throwing shade at Queen Camilla.
One viral line: "Six bomb eggs yuh fry, Charles?!"
From animated neck rolls to pitch-perfect "kissing teeth," his mannerisms have viewers hooked.
"I wasn't sure if people would get it, but my followers wanted more," he said, adding that his "Jamaican Diana" skits have earned him millions of views and constant engagement, especially from Caribbean fans.
"I've had such amazing feedback... particularly from Jamaican and Caribbean people, which makes me feel so uplifted," said Cordes. "They even correct my patois for me if I ever get it a bit wrong."
His most-watched skit features Diana dancing to Spice's hit Skin Out, racking up more than four million views. One fan begged: "Give him his Jamaican citizenship right now!"
Cordes attributes his deep appreciation for Jamaican culture to his childhood years in the Cayman Islands.
"I was surrounded by Jamaicans -- the food, music, and culture. I had two Jamaican babysitters, and I learnt to kiss my teeth from them," he recalled with a laugh.
A self-professed nerd who enjoys anime and video games, Cordes also runs his own talent agency, Melon Talent, where he represents fellow content creators and secures brand deals.
As for his viral nickname? "I love it!" he exclaimed. "My followers are hilarious, and reading my comment section is one of the best things about posting content."
Now dreaming of a return trip to Jamaica, Cordes says he feels deeply embraced by the culture.
"I'd love to come back and visit as soon as I can," he said.
And fans may not have to settle for just Yardiana -- Cordes is already thinking ahead.
"I'm open to making Princess Diana from different Caribbean countries. I think a Bajan Diana would be brilliant!"
