Sister desperate to find missing brother
For Maxine Mitchell, her brother Cedric Mitchell's smile cannot only light up a room, it can easily make her worst day better.
Today, her greatest wish is to see his smile again, as Cedric, who is a British national who is originally from St Elizabeth and currently lives in Goshen in the parish, has been missing for almost five months. Reports are that he was last seen on July 26, 2023, in Phantiland district in the parish. Cedric is of brown complexion, slim build and approximately 5' 8". Cedric, also called 'Zedi' or 'British', sports a low-cut hairstyle and has a black scar on his back.
Mitchell, who like her brother is a British national from St Elizabeth, told THE STAR that she last saw him in March 2023, when he went to England to visit her and their mother. However, after hearing about his disappearance, she flew to Jamaica and is adamant that she will not leave until he is found. She has been literally taken to the streets, seeking anyone who may have an idea of where he is. Mitchell is also not ruling out foul play.
"I know that my brother would want us to keep looking for him and find him, whether he is dead or alive. We just want closure, we just want to know what happened to him," the 56-year-old said.
"I just can't leave without knowing what happened ... I miss him so much. I just want to see him, he's got the most beautiful smile. I wish I could just see him smile again," she added.
Unable to hold back tears, Mitchell told THE STAR that although she fears her brother isn't alive, she refuses to give up hope or stop looking for him.
"I don't know if he is alive, but I'm hoping he is. I keep seeing his face, and I keep dreaming him that he's not in a good place" she said. Mitchell said that since her brother's disappearance, her life has not been the same.
"I'm scared and anxious. I feel like I'm going crazy, like I have no idea who I am. The amount of crying I've done is so much. I haven't slept and I don't know, it's just too much," she said with tears rolling down her face. Mitchell added that Cedric's disappearance has been hard on the entire family, especially their 85-year-old mother. Mitchell said that the matriarch has barely spoken, lost weight, and just sits and reminisces on Cedric's younger years.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Cedric Mitchell is being asked to contact the Santa Cruz police at 876- 966-2289, 119 police emergency number or the nearest police station.
