Dexta Daps enjoying ‘best Christmas’ with son - Artiste plans to give back for the Yuletide season
Beyond his known seductive charm and melodious tone lies a caring, generous, cheerful persona that international dancehall sensation Dexta Daps will be sharing with the elders of a particular golden age home for his inaugural Christmas charity project.
The artiste made this revelation during his Trilogy Tour launch held recently at The Summit in New Kingston.
According to the tour's public relations officer, Jhevonte Webster, this charitable plan is the artiste's "brainchild" project for the Christmas season and is geared towards including the less fortunate of that particular demographic.
"We are expressing interest in the golden age home, not sure which one as yet. The plan is to bring barbers and hairdressers there to give the residents some fresh looks, as well as entertainment, food and tokens," Webster told THE WEEKEND STAR.
While in the spirit of Christmas, THE WEEKEND STAR tapped into the Forever singer's memory to reflect on his favourite Christmas moment. As jolly as he portrays his adult life to be, his childhood Christmas memories weren't the same.
"Jah know star, Christmas wasn't really wah me want it fi be until mi get a child, then me try mek dat person see di Christmas weh me neva see. Suh my Christmas with my youth, a di best Christmas," Dexta Daps shared as he snapped out of his moment of nostalgia to do a rendition of his favourite Christmas song, Twelve Days of Christmas.
"Mi love dah part yah, ' five golden rings ... '," he sang in an operatic tone with his head held high.
He added that his team is currently awaiting final confirmation from the proposed entity before making their final decision. The charity event is tentatively slated to take place on December 6. While acknowledging the assistance from the sponsors, Dexta Daps said his Christmas charity will be partly funded from proceeds from his tours.
"With the help of our beautiful sponsors, mi waah do some giveaways after this fi di elderly people because mi feel like people figet bout dem a lot. Suh a dem mi a really branch off pon and do some charity after all a dis [the Trilogy tour, which runs from December 1 to 3]. Mi waah start up something really serious fi zone in pon dem right now," he said.
