Jamaica-born, US-based dancehall artiste Tina, formerly known as HoodCelebrityy, is feeling revolutionised after healing from a deep, emotional childhood trauma which brought her mental clarity as expressed in her latest single ' Peace Of Mind'.

"Sometimes people see we as artiste, wi happy and wi affi put wi best foot forward but yuh don't know weh people a guh through. Suh Peace Of Mind is where I was coming from a very dark, dark place and I was going through a lot of stuff," she said.

"For example, in my household, growing up, you were told how to live yuh life, how fi guh about certain stuff and mi couldn't even tell mi madda seh 'Mi sad today cause mi nuh know mi fadda'. Suh now I'm in a space where I'm just happy with who I am, where I'm at and making my own decisions and living for me now - I feel free," she told THE STAR in an exclusive interview.

She revealed that the themes explored throughout the song were focused on emotional freedom, protecting your inner peace and healing. She said she first met her father last October, "so it was really more on healing that inner little girl that's hurting...and the connection is going pretty good".

Peace Of Mind has so far amassed more than one million views since its release. Blended with the sound of Ghanaian Afrobeat heavyweight, Stonebwoy, the track hits deep in the hearts of both Jamaican and Ghanaian fans who commended the artistes for forming the "best collaborative vibe".

"Mi feel like Stonebwoy is very spiritual and the energy mi get the first time mi meet him was like a real spiritual connection. [It] was just very pure. So I did my research, listened to some a him song dem and mi feel a great connection and mi just reach out to him. He fell in love with the song and he did his verse in like three days," Tina recalled. The singer who has been connecting her Jamaican roots to the 'Motherland' through music, said this partnership with Stonebwoy brought her to Africa for the first time.

"It was amazing. I went to his studio, he was very welcoming and they love him in Africa too so I felt very protected and very safe - he treated me like a queen," she noted.

Upon gaining closure to a long-standing childhood pain that left her with a feeling of abandonment, Tina said she's back to a happy place of creating the hits she's known for.

"This is definitely a new Tina because now mi fans dem ago get a different energy. Now mi deh pon a more up-tempo vibe weh mi can now have fun," she said.

Tina, who broke onto the scene with Walking Trophy said before and after landing that hit, she was creating music from a place of hurt, but still managed to keep that out of her music, consistently dropping music and doing shows.

"Mi just did a work through di pain until mi drop Hurt Inside which allowed me to kinda open up to the people a little and let them know how mi feel. But now mi feel mi inna a better place weh mi can really recreate and drop di vibe weh di people dem know mi fah," she reiterated.

Tina stressed the importance of gaining and protecting one's peace of mind and mental state, especially as an artiste working in such a chaotic environment.

"Mi go by the 'see and blind, hear and deaf' concept, enuh, and dat stuck wid me and help mi fi stay outta people business. Having peace of mind should be top priority for every artiste because yuh can have money but if yuh don't have peace and yuh naah try fi heal yuhself, honestly yuh don't have nutten," she said. Tina credited her mother for keeping her grounded, always keeping contact with her and praying.

"She a di person weh a go gimmie di harsh reality, di harsh truth and show mi life for what it is," she added. Tina also revealed that consistently hitting the gym helped her to divert some of her anger and pain while simultaneously boosting her stage performances.

Tina promised to roll out a slew of songs showcasing her revived energy, with plans to release a single on her birthday on July 5, titled Boom Boom featuring Spanish artiste, Yomel. She is also preparing for an international tour, and will be dropping her debut album.
