Fast-rising dancehall sensation Nhance said his mother, Gaza Sheba, a member of the Vybz Kartel led-Portmore Empire, serves as his greatest source of inspiration in fulfilling his music career.

In a sitdown with THE WEEKEND STAR, the young deejay said that everything his mother does motivates him in different ways.

"If she talk to me and try to motivate me, I'm motivated, and if she cry, it motivate mi fi mek sure seh she neva cry again. And if shi laugh, I am also motivated fi mek sure seh she keep laughing. Suh whatever she duh, it motivates me or boosts mi fi do better," said Nhance.

"Probably if mi madda neva deh around, mi wouldn't be so eager, because most a dis weh mi a duh, mi a dweet moreso fi mi madda dan me because that's mummy," he added. Nhance recently dedicated a track to his mom, titled Mama, which is on his debut EP.

He further noted that, "My madda is like my best friend. It's still mi madda suh it's not like a 'Mi and yuh a size' type a best friend, it's like a best friend with respect. She a di type a madda weh from mi a [young] mi can call her and mi and har can reason bout anything. She's not the type to push yuh aside. Every madda shout but it's all pon di journey a discipline at di same time, but mi and mi madda have dat special bond," he said.

Gaza Sheba is popularly known for her hit collaborations with Vybz Kartel such as Like Christmas, Yuh and Him Deh and Gal a Weh Me Do You. The artiste and actress made an indelible mark, but Nhance said though her musical impact was globally recognised, he never felt pressured to deliver at that calibre.

"Mi pressure miself fi duh betta fi prove to miself seh 'Mi can duh dis too', but mi never feel pressured because dis is fun to me, it's not like work....mi mek money from it but it's just fun for me. No producer cyaah tell yuh seh dem eva pay Nhance fi voice yet and it's not like mi nuh know mi value. But I think when music a come from a real place, it work betta...and mi dweet wid a smile," he said.

The grateful singjay also credited his team for being a strong encouraging unit, whose members uplift each other and add to his ongoing musical progress.

"It's a journey of life and success and when yuh reach a certain level, yuh ago meet people weh ago do things fi yuh at different time frames during yuh career...but everybody play dem part. Mi team (who he said are his day-one friends) and mi manager help fi put mi weh mi deh now and play a big role," he said. He opined that it is important for artistes to have the "right people" around them to fuel their success.

"[They] will tell yuh di truth, and as an artiste, di truth duh a lot fi yuh if yuh know how fi accept di truth and work pon weh yuh need fi work pon. Without di right team weh everybody just a tell yuh 'Yea man', dat ruin yuh as an artiste," he said. He also opined that there is a lack of respect from some younger artistes for their musical elders, so there's a lack of musical advice that was once passed down.

However, with the right team and the right attitude, coupled with a deep passion to always connect with the masses from a genuine place, the self-proclaimed 'Dancehall Monster' promised to always give music the best version of himself. He said that performing on Reggae Sumfest has been his standout moment since he shot to fame four years ago.

"Reggae Sumfest [2024] bring out sides weh mi neva know seh exist and bring out things inna mi weh mi did too prideful fi duh as well. But that Reggae Sumfest performance, mi did just out a mi element and just a work off a mi emotions. Dat a mi most memorable moment, mi cherish dah moment deh, every step a di way," he said.
