Konshens said his new album Pool Party shows he is re-energised in music and will reintroduce a "party vibe" within the dancehall scene with a special touch for the ladies.

"If yuh think about the highest time for dancehall culture and dancehall music round di world is really party music - music fi di girls, music singing about love, the beats are very party-centred and not much of a 'listen pon yuh phone and drive inna yuh car vibes'. It was really club music. So that's really what my idea was in making this album," Konshens told THE STAR.

"Wid how di world serious right now wid everything feel like it a bun dung, mi neva waah reflect dat wid dis project, this time. Mi neva want it be a crying project or one weh ago mek people feel more depressed that they already are," he added. Featuring various genres and artistes, Konshens said he hopes for his supporters to create their own vibe as they listen.

He opined that dancehall is on a upswing right now with artistes such as Vybz Kartel and Buju Banton doing well, and with many current artistes delivering nice music again.

"Dancehall have a nice look now, a more appealing look than it had two years ago and mi feel like dis album will come add to that, that's my intention. I hope it will also lift the dancehall culture in a way in which dem cyaah get fi move it outta di way again," shared Konshens. "That's what we need right now - to get back dancehall pon a level where we don't just have Shaggy and Sean Paul, then wi have Beenie Man and Bounty Killer. We need like [up to] 10 artistes pushing the culture at the same time at the highest level."

Pushing for an intended global appeal, Konshens said he filtered in a mix of the Afrobeat, Latino and hip-hop genres to ensure quality and variety. The album also comprises of collaborations from globally-recognisable acts such as The Game, Lil Duval, Skillibeng, Charly Black and Moyann.

Pool Party is slated for release on Friday. The project, the artiste's fifth studio album, starts out with a prayerful single Our Father.

"Mi intention fi mek people party nuh overshadow di fact seh a still Konshens mi name. Suh mi did affi start it and set di tone and give thanks fi all a weh mi achieve because even though I took a hiatus from music, the Lord bless me to a point where mi can still feed mi family. Suh mi did affi set di tone wid Our Father and den just dive inna di party...bless the dance and den kick it off," he shared with a laugh.

Highlighting the theme behind the project as one of "personal rebirth", the artiste acknowledged that though his music was lacking on the local scene for some time, the album is not a musical comeback.

"I'm not really placing that responsibility on the album, mi really just a duh music and a give it mi energy. Mi really re-energised fi di industry itself suh mi just ago duh di work and see wah happen," he stressed.

He noted that 2016 is considered his best and worst year.

"Mi did kinda get shake up wid di events of that year. It did kinda bruk mi vibes inna music too because a all a dat wid Delus (his recording artiste brother who died that year) because dem man deh a neva just mi brother, but mi musical brother. Suh it did bruk mi vibes from music fi a while. But every now and then mi tap in and tap out but mi neva have di real energy fi continuously stick wid it. But right now, mi feel like mi re-energised," he reiterated.
