Dancehall artiste Silk Boss says staying true to himself is a non-negotiable part of his persona.

"Mi just nuh business," the Montego Bay-based lyricist said unapologetically.

"Mi just always be me all di time, and try fi be a better version of myself suh mi can connect more wid my fans, and when mi raw and unfiltered dat even work better fi mi cause mi just nuh business," he shared.

While some artistes ride the wave of controversy and gimmicks, Silk Boss says he prefers to keep things real.

"Music is a reflection of reality," Silk Boss explained. "From longer time, every artiste sing bout a reflection a dem life, or weh dem see a gwaan. Mi is a youth weh neva grow up perfect suh life experiences mek mi affi duh things and overcome those things fi reach yah suh. So a basically life experiences mi just sing bout, and use my experiences fi teach mi fans," he shared.

The Surgery artiste was along the impressive turn-out of new-era entertainers who turned up at Di Lot in St Andrew last Thursday to support Nhance at the launch of his Monster of My Era EP. Hot shot artistes Jahshii, Kyodi, Jquan, Kranium, ZiZi, Kant10t, and Melody also shared in the celebration.

"It's a joy to be here representing, because mi is a youth weh nuh really have nutten against nobody, and mi like fi support anybody weh support mi, and Nhance a one a dem good youth deh weh him music speaks volume," Silk Boss told THE STAR.

He had words of encouragement for Nhance, telling him to stay on the conscious path he is on and keep doing it big.

"Di G a duh him ting man, and yuh know every artiste deserve dem fair share a di cake," he said.

Known for songs such as Nah Leave, Stay to Myself, and Life Story, Silk Boss says he is aware of the demands of the music industry and the toll it can take if not managed wisely.

"One great man tell wi seh 'Music bigga dan all a wi'. Yuh haffi grow inna music," Silk Boss said.

"Mi young, so mi have nuff space fi evolve, and mi know seh yuh caaah overdo it. If yuh burn out now, when the real time come fi put in di real work, yuh done. So mi focus on staying relevant, doing good music, but not overworking miself," he reasoned.

The artiste, who recently released a new track, Guh Hard, is gearing up to perform at Alkaline's New Rules concert at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium. He has promised to not only deliver great music but what he calls a "signature jump".

"Fans can expect great music and a perfect delivery and probably a new jump too," he joked.
