Hintell is on a musical mission
Shaking the STAR studio with his husky and roaring vocals, aspiring dancehall act Hintell said that in addition to his unique, commanding sound, he's confident that the "substance and facts" he brings will aid his mission to "uplift and represent the Third World" through music.
Hailing from Retreat, St Mary, the Ferncourt High School graduate credits his country lifestyle for helping him to carve out his distinctive voice while embedding within him a warm, authentic personality that's polished with humility.
"I grew up around the water and gardens in St Mary ... and this helped to shape me [as an artiste] because mi voice build on the riverside. We compete with the roaring streams, so that helped a lot. Also, a nice refreshing bath by the river a mawnin time help yuh fi complete yuh goals. A nice bath can change/shift yuh whole day [because] it cool yuh mindset and wake yuh immune [system]," Hintell told THE STAR.
After completing a year at Moneague College, he decided that music was his true calling and paused his studies. However, his moniker was coined from the programme in which he was enrolled.
"I was pursuing management information systems technology, hence - Hintell. The word 'intel', you know a facts, suh it also means seh mi state the facts inna di music and communicate wid di people dem. So it's a double entendre," he said, explaining that the 'H' and extra 'l' were added to prevent copyright infringement.
Hintell said that if it weren't music, being a pilot was on the cards.
"That was indoctrinated and embedded inna yuh brain seh yuh want be supm weh people look up to and pilot a soar inna di sky. Mi always feel like it's a safe haven fi deh inna di sky, yuh just feel free and soar like a bird yuh nuh," said the artiste, who still plans to fulfil his pilot dreams in the near future.
"But music has always been a part of me because it's primary school that kinda nurtured music for me through group presentations. Mi realise it's a strong point if me fi write a song about a topic, mi sure a mi 100 per cent," he laughed. He further noted that since that tender age, he realised his craftiness and creativity started to "grow and blossom tremendously" in music".
"First. it started out as a hobby and then mi start tek it serious and stop do music fi fun and start dweet fi people, and mi realise it tek money. Suh wi affi dweet fi mek money, and a suh wi bring in the business side of it. Plus it balance me fi get fi do wah mi love while doing it," he stated.
Hintell strongly believes in his musical style and the difference it will make on this generation.
"Wi state the facts and wi naah guh 'cap' (tell lies). And wah also mek it different, is the flow and then the double entendre of lyrics. Suh when yuh hear supm one time and it fly ova yuh head and yuh listen it back, yuh a guh seh 'A dat di dawg really a seh?' Because lyrics have meaning when di pain real, but when life nice yuh just a enjoy di melody. But if yuh really listen deep, mi have a message regardless of how it sound," shared the deejay. He described his style as "raunchy, erotic and raw", but with a balance of clean, positive music.
Hintell is confident that his musical messages are guaranteed to keep fans hooked because he bears his true and unfiltered soul throughout his creative artistry.
"Mi explain out mi whole life to dem [lyrically] and mek dem know seh a dis a di mission. Mi mek dem know seh [in life] yuh ago face obstacles and nuh matter what colour yuh be, be proud of yuhself and never stop trying. Mi just try fi motivate people towards conquering the world and try get dem mind off a di struggles while speaking the facts suh it can provoke people - and dat a my mission," he said.
Additionally, he underscored that his aim to uplift the Third World which is the third generation, might seem tedious, but he's dedicated to getting the mission completed through "charities, youth uplifting speeches/word of encouragements and good music".
The deejay got his professional start in music in 2020, and released his debut EP, titled Ocean Drive, alongside several tracks including Revivalist, which has gained significant traction.
