Dancehall artiste Khago is setting the record straight about his recent appearance at a People's National Party (PNP) meeting in Bellefield, Manchester, recently.

The Nah Sell Out artiste said his appearance on the stage on June 1, where he performed with D'Angel, was not a political endorsement, but was more about promoting his music.

"Mi hear seh dem have campaign and mi have mi song - 2 Time - fi promote, suh anyweh people deh, a deh mi a guh deh. Suh mi just guh up deh guh sing fi di Mandeville people dem. When mi guh perform, mi nuh business if a PNP or a Labourite, a perform mi guh deh fi perform. Suh dis wasn't no endorsement," Khago told THE STAR.

In addition to his desire to promote his music, Khago said he deeply respects PNP kingmaker, Kenneth 'Skeng Don' Black, who is considered to be an influential person in the constituency of Manchester Central where the conference was held.

"Even if mi did a Labourite and Skeng Don call mi, mi a guh because Skeng Don is so helpful to the community," the entertainer said.

Khago's statement comes as a wave of dancehall entertainers including Chronic Law, Popcaan, D'Angel, Mr Vegas and Jahvillani have popped up at political conferences across the island.

Khago told THE STAR that he voted once, and this for for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), but insisted that his allegiance is not tied to the party.

"Mi nuh duh politics, enuh, mi only did duh dat fi mi grandmother because she a JLP, and at di time, PNP did inna power fi 18 years and mi did waah give a next man a chance fi run di country," he said, adding that if he should engage in politics, he would choose the PNP.

"The difference between Labourite and PNP is that the PNP love fi see when ghetto youth have things. They are more lenient pon poor people owning their own stuff and poor people can make a way and get rich," he opined.

Manchester Central is currently represented by the JLP's Rhoda Moy Crawford, who Khago describes as "a very nice lady" who "talk to mi good". She won the constituency in 2020 after dispatching the PNP's Peter Bunting who had been member of parliament since 2007. Bunting has since shifted to the neighbouring Manchester Southern, making way for Donovan Mitchell to contest the Manchester Central seat on the PNP ticket.

Khago urged Crawford to take full command of her constituency by moving beyond temporary road fixes. He suggested that roadwork be done properly at night--completely resurfaced, not just patched--and called for consistent maintenance, like monthly spraying and cleaning, instead of waiting until Christmas.

He is convinced that it will be difficult for Mitchell to beat Crawford in the upcoming elections.

"Even if the party lose, she caah lose because dis is Miss Rhoda's place, and wi a mek sure seh she nuh lose her seat. Mi love her, enuh, and she nuh suppose to inna no pressure fi know if she a guh win back. She supposed to definitely sure of her seat," he said.

The entertainer has urged Jamaicans to let go of blind party loyalty and start voting based on performance.
