‘Devil Is A Liar’ - Delly Ranx preaches road safety after near-fatal crash
"It's everybody's responsibility to be safe out there and to always look out fi somebody," says dancehall artiste Delly Ranx, who is using his voice in support of road safety after surviving a terrifying head-on collision.
The Jamaica-born, US-based singjay is stressing that simple acts of caution could save lives. He recently released Devil Is A Liar, a powerful new single inspired by the May 5 crash that nearly claimed his life.
"God really gave me a second chance for a reason," he said.
The artiste said that he was heading to his home in Atlanta, USA, when the crash occurred.
"I was out promoting my upcoming event in June from one party to another party, and on my way home I was talking to my friend from England, using my ear buds, so it's not like I was distracted or anything. Di next ting mi know, mi car get lick and tun di adda way and he was there on the phone hearing everything and I was conscious of everything."
Although he is still unsure what caused the collision, Delly Ranx recalls a truck appearing out of nowhere and hitting his vehicle head-on.
"A truck just came out of nowhere and it was a head-on collision but the good thing about it, I came out with no broken bones, get a few scratches - got two cut on my right foot and couple stitches on one of my finger and a couple bruises; so I'll always give God the glory," he shared.
The incident happened just minutes from his Atlanta home, around 7 a.m. Eyewitnesses rushed to help and were stunned he survived.
"You're a miracle man, you're God's chosen one," one woman told him. She helped contact his wife, who took him to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. He was treated and released the same day.
Still feeling pain in his neck, back, and shoulders, Delly Ranx says the experience has made him even more grateful--and even more careful.
"Yuh know mi kinda scared right now fi tell yuh di truth. Mi extra careful right now because what happened to me, I was so conscious but nervous at the same time, and now when I'm driving, I'm just more careful," he said.
He was also quick to defend his lifestyle, stating that his accident wasn't caused by reckless behaviour.
"It's the first accident for me because me is a man weh conscious. Mi nuh drink excessively and dem ting deh or smoke - mi smoke at home," he said, adding that the matter is heading to court.
Delly Ranx believes that many accidents could be avoided if drivers simply learned and respected the rules of the road.
"If di people dem follow di rules, yuh safety ago be good because sometimes dem nuh know di meaning or use of unbroken lines from broken lines, when fi overtake from don't overtake. Suh sometimes a dem ting deh a happen, suh if yuh know di rules addi road, yuh ago have less accidents," he reasoned.
Devil Is A Liar--released just days after the crash--is a musical testimony of survival and gratitude.
"Looking at the car and for me to be here talking to you now, ano me dweet, a God dweet, suh mi affi give God di praise. Suh mi jus ago use this chance to continue to do good and continue to be a better me," he shared.
Though the emotional wounds linger, Delly Ranx says his faith remains unshaken.
"When I look back on the pictures, it bring mi in a different side to life - day by day mi look pon di pictures and mi seh, 'Mi really deh yah, God really love mi.' But mi is a man weh always send out mi daily devotions in mi WhatsApp groups and always a tell others about God and just reason wid God. I'm more spiritual than weh people think, suh that's why Jah cover me under him wings and never mek nutten happen to me."
He encouraged fellow entertainers and Jamaicans as a whole to slow down and drive smart.
"Mi always try fi drive mi best pon di road, mi nuh drive too fast nor too slow, mi always obey the speed limit. Mi always tell people to try and be that driver weh look out fi other drivers and don't be selfish... avoid road rage and try to think 10 steps ahead."
He continued: "Practise to slow drive first before yuh drive fast. Better yuh leave out early to reach safe and wait, other than yuh don't reach at all."
